Kdrama (sneak peek) - Jirisan

Not surprising on the rating. This is one of the most highly anticipated dramas this year. A story about the rangers and other employees of Jirisan National Park, as well as incidents surrounding the mountain.  Just watched the first 2 episodes 3 days ago. It started with a newly arrived ranger who joined the search and rescue (SAR) team for a missing child, suspected came to the mountain to commit suicide. They showed charismatic and fast-moving action in the beginning (even with some dodgy CGI effect), and the storyline later developed into the peeling off dark mysteries surrounding the mountain.  Honestly the drama gave me goosebumps while anticipating every detail of the story development, even just for 2 episodes. It's a nerve racking, dark mystery drama with captivating view of the mountain. As expected from the writer of drama Signal and Kingdom, this drama is the kind that keeps you sitting on the edge, engaged. The drama is supported by great casts - Ju Ji-hoon (Kingd...

Netflix Movie Review - Fatherhood (2021)

Matt, a single father who just lost his wife unexpectedly hours after she delivered their beautiful baby girl, Maddy. Now Matt has to decide how to raise his little girl while struggling to juggle things in his life. A heartwarming and funny story. Two-parent livelihood is hard, but single parent is much more! I can't imagine the chaos… but the supports are amazing! Both main characters played well, with the colors of the supporting characters.  First time parent, alone, most would feel hopeless, exhausted, and maybe even try to just give up. But every child is their parents' strength. I love that the movie showed the real life struggle and appease to the supports around Matt when he is having a hard time to raise Maddy. The family, the friends, the office. We learnt from this pandemic that work if flexible everywhere nowadays, and it gives him more space to be there for his daughter. Being a single parent also should not stop a parent to pause a moment and think about him/her...

World Suicide Prevention Day (2021)

10 September 2021. Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. It's a day to raise awareness that suicide can be prevented. During this challenging time, people are more susceptible to stress, anxiety, depression and feeling of losing hope due to various reasons. Many have lost their jobs, losing their loved ones, exhausted physically and mentally, suffering abuses, and many more. Some may have resorted to taking extreme measure to handle it. Let's play our role as part of a community to increase this awareness and stop the social stigma on people who are having mental health issues. Let's be more kind to other people and ourselves. Since gathering and face to face meeting can be challenging during this time, let's play our role as well to reach out to at least one person today in our social circle. Technology has made it easier for us to connect. Use it. We are all just connected with one call / Whatsapp away. If possible, video call is better. For someone who has survived ...

Froebel Professional Development Course (Level 1)

I'm graduating! Alhamdulillah...finally completed and graduated from 4 months of Froebel Professional Development Course (FPDC). Yeay!! Even though I had been to medical school and was a MO at paeds, this is a totally different view and experience of learning on children. Exploring play and its relation to their physical, mental, emotion, social development, and so much more. I am amazed how beautiful the natural process is, how precious and sensitive children are, how much they have taken in and how much the adults may have 'hurt' them. This journey is not only about learning and understanding children, but also a learning and a healing process for myself. The most challenging, but also an important part is to unschool my thoughts; to unlearn and relearn. A lot of peeling happened, layers by layers, with lots of reflections, and understanding more of myself. I don't have any children of my own, but I am a parent first for myself, my inner child. I am also here, tryi...

Children misbehave? Annoying?

Life really can take you turn 180 degrees. Owh... children, how I have a love-hate relationship with you.  My last entry was about how I have decided not to have my own children. Have I changed my mind? Since then, I have learnt a lot about parenting and early childhood education. Weird? This is just how things go. If I don't like something (in this case children), it does not mean I can't love them right? So I just want to get to know them better. Well, children... you guys are genius! I am amazed on things I am learning. You little human being...so annoying, clingy and attention seeker. No, I don't hate them. I have learnt to accept that they are just being children. We are all once are children. But we always feel that we can't handle them, feeling that they are so demanding? It comes back to a self-reflection. We have always putting expectations on how one should behave, how one should not do this and that, but we forgot that these children is growing up, just star...

A Winter Thought of Offspring

I have a couple of experiences taking care of my niece (2 years and 6 months old ) and nephew (4 yrs 10 months old) while my sister and her husband were away. Of course I was not alone. Actually their intention was to leave them with my parents, but it just happened that I was with my parents as well then.  This might be an untraditional thoughts. People said I might feel differently if I have my own child, one born from my womb. Someones said to me, "It's indescribable feeling. Yes, you'll have not enough sleep, endless chores, demands of attention, little time for yourself, but it will all worth it". Really? Knowing me, I feel like it's not for me. It's also not something I can just try, because when it happened, you have to commit for it. I don't want to be unfair to the child. It's not a responsibility that I'm willing to take. That's why I despise parents who neglect their child, and worse even abuse this tender human being...

Mental Health: Am I Insane??

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/may/15/teenage-girl-kills-herself-after-instagram-poll-in-malaysia https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2019/05/17/cops-teen-who-committed-suicide-after-instagram-poll-suffered-from-depression/ https://www.bbc.com/news/world-48281152 https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2019/05/16/outcry-over-teenagers-death/ The recent tragedy of a Sarawakian teenager's death last month who made a poll on Instagram, allegedly on her life before her death has been getting global attention. Ironically the incident occurred during the week of Mental Health Awareness Week (13 - 19 May - it starts every year on 2nd Monday in May). Following this tragedy, again, people start to discuss the issue of mental health seriously. It’s a bless in disguise, however unfortunately it is sad to see that mental health seems to have become seasonal discussion. Only when something happened, people will talk about it, and take it seriously, start looking for...

Taking a Break from Work (Career Gap)

Just to let the reader know the current situation: I joined an insurance company in the mid of 2014 and resigned in early Sept 2017 without a job. Later, I came back to the industry in early Dec 2017. This is inspired from some friends who have been asking me how do I make decision to just submit my resignation without having a job to fall back to? Was it just spur of the moment? How do I have the courage to do so? What about my financial commitment? Was I not afraid to be unemployed? Well, it’s actually not that simple and it was not an impromptu decision. I might not have a clear plan, but I had a plan. If you read my past entry, this dormant period of of not working is not the first time. I have experienced it when I quit my job as a medical doctor at a government hospital. Will this become a trend for me? I’m not sure. But for some people (read: me) , 2 weeks of leave might not be enough. They just need that long break. So far 3 months break works for me, but honestly I do...

Book Review - Inequality in Malaysia (The Color of Inequality & Rich Malaysia, Poor Malaysians)

== Book Review == 1.  The Color of Inequality by Muhammed Abdul Khalid 2.  Rich Malaysia, Poor Malaysians by Anas Alam Faizli @anasalamfaizli   This is a long pending review which has been due for over a month. I ’m afraid I wouldn’t do justice. Both are just too good, hope my review helps. Read these books back to back because both are about the same issue, i,e; INEQUALITY, not anywhere else, but here in our beloved Malaysia. It took me quite some time to finish and digest. It’s a serious issue, but it’s so interesting that made me read some parts twice! Book 1 is like a thesis, provides statistic data from colonial times to millennium times, as we can see the shift of our economic base and help understand how gap occurred between races and how the gap of inequality did not did not change much for that 20 years. The data is shocking but it is not surprising when we see the reality around us. Inequality happened in every category either race/ethnic,s...

Book review - Breathe by Beni Rusani

= Book Review= Breathe by Beni Rusani ( @drbenirusani ) Finished this book in 2 days.  Interesting & recommended! 👍👍👍 The flash back moments of Adam's life to his housemanship time reminds me back during the time I was a houseman. During housemanship, anywhere, I think would have ; that fierce specialist/MO that live up to his/her nicknames (do we give nicknames?) that specialist who would find time to teach his/her junior colleagues who were just started to breath the air of hell that kind-hearted medical officers who still remember they were once a houseman too, and treated you like a friend that fellow houseman who is a know-it-all and despise other housemen for being incompetent, and make his/her job difficult that fellow houseman who is smart enough to leave when the shift is over that staff nurse who always looked down on houseman The list can go on and on. It had its ugliness yet the kind MOs & specialis...
